Progress on the San Marcos fire

SAN MARCOS (CNS) – Crews made good progress Friday against a San Marcos-area wildfire that has charred more than 2,500 acres, forced thousands to evacuate their homes and gutted several homes. By early evening, ground and airborne personnel 

The Cocos Fire in San Marcos had burned 800 acres, destroyed three homes and damaged one other as of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the San Marcos website. Steve Kuzj reports from San Marcos for the KTLA 5

Firefighters, aided by civilian and military aircraft, had largely contained a few of the fires, but officials said that the 1,200-acre San Marcos/Cocos fire remained “very active” and that two other fires near Marine Corps Base
