Detroit announced Avila's move to the DL prior to Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals and recalled catcher Bryan Holaday from Triple-A Toledo. Avila, 28, is batting .200 with two home runs and eight RBIs this season, his seventh with the Tigers.
