A few tidbits on Mercer University

There were hundreds, perhaps a thousand, maybe more, jammed into the middle of a blocked-off main thoroughfare at the edge of Mercer's campus. For the better part of three early-afternoon hours — on a workday Friday, mind you — they rooted, groaned 

Duke alumni aside, everybody loves when Duke loses, even if it busts their bracket. Mercer University, with an undergraduate enrollment around 4,000, is based in Macon, Ga., was founded by early 19th century Baptists and named for one of those founders, minister Jesse Mercer (whose statue is at the center of campus). Former President 

Tennessee denied Mercer a second straight upset in decidedly one-sided fashion, routing the Bears 83-63 in the third round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday night behind 17 points and a career-high-tying 18 rebounds for Jarnell Stokes. Josh Richardson
